This photo was taken at the Puu Gih Jih Chinese Temple, Sandakan. We (Fusion Origins Photography) has a mini outing in Sandakan at that time. This particular temple is famous among tourists, as it is situated on top on a hill, and from the temple, we can have a clear view of Sandakan Town.

I took this shot late last year, during my cousin's engagement. The coconut plays an integral part in a Hindu ceremony. A quick check on wiki yielded the following result.

A coconut (Sanskrit: narikela) is an essential element of rituals in Hindu tradition, and often is decorated with bright metal foils and other symbols of auspiciousness.
It is offered during worship to a Hindu god or goddess. Irrespective of their religious affiliation, fishermen of India often offer it to the rivers and seas in the hopes of having bountiful catches.
In Hindu wedding ceremonies, a coconut is placed over the opening of a pot, representing a womb.
Hindus often initiate the beginning of any new activity by breaking a coconut to ensure the blessings of the gods and successful completion of the activity.
The Hindu goddess of well-being and wealth, Lakshmi, is often shown holding a coconut.
The coconut has a role in Indian daily life. In South India, for all the functions, where prayer take place, there, the Hindus, keep the coconut and banana, along with other 'Pooja' materials, and break open the coconut and after that only any kind of Pooja / prayers / activities will be started.
In the Temple Town Palani, before going for the worship of God Murugan, at the foot hills of Palani Hills, for the Ganesha, a coconut will be broken at the place where it is marked for that purpose. Every day, thousands of coconuts are broken, and some devotees break even 108 coconuts at a time as per the prayer.

Howdy folks...

Been a long... long... long... long.... long.... time since I last did any blogging. Was kinda busy with work and and whatnot for the past year or so. As much as I tried, I couldn't find the time to do any blogging. However, on a more positive note, the viewership of this blog has been quite encouraging for a non productive blog. Based on my site tracker, the viewership has been in the region of 100 for every month. Not bad eh. Here are the statistics from my site tracker.

Anyhow, moving forward, I'll try to update this blog as much as I can, depending on the material that I have in hand. As for now, I would concentrate all my resources and time into making this blog a success. I will try to devote as much time as possible towards making this blog a success.

The reason for my renewed enthusiasm in blogging is basically I would like to take my photography to the next level. I am still shooting using the same camera and lenses as I did before, but I have already planned for some major upgrades in the months to come. This particular blog would act as my online gallery and also as a portfolio to showcase my photography works.

Enough ranting for now, I have a few items already lined up for my posting, so stay tuned for great things to come.

I was at one of the sites that I am currently working on in Sapulut (40km away from Nabawan). I captured this shot early this morning. The cicada was on the ground and to get this particular shot, I was lying down flat on my belly, much to the amusement of my contractors. Only after taking this shot and showing it to them, did they realize that I was not so crazy after all.

I went to visit some friends who had set up a stall beside the Babagon River selling foods to those who come there for picnic. This shot was taken last month at Point and Shoot Studio in Kepayan, Sabah. The studio belongs to a photographer friend of mine. This was my first studio experience and I learnt a lot of things especially with regards to lighting and all. In the original shot, the photo taken was a bit over exposed, so I converted it to black and white as not to make the harsh lighting look very obvious.

This particular caterpillar was resting on a green leaf when I found it. I tried to take a shot of it but the colour of the caterpillar was not prominent enough. So I moved the caterpillar to a different leaf so that the contrast can be see. No caterpillar was harmed during this photoshoot. Finally an update from me after so long. Very very sorry if have disappointed any of you out there. I got married end of last month and the few weeks leading up to the wedding and after the wedding was quite hectic. Thus the lack of update on my blog. However, I am back on track and I hope to continue updating this blog more often.
Here is a photo taken of my mum's orchid back in Sandakan. Quite a few in the series, so stay tuned for more orchids, especially for all orchid lovers up there. This particular orchid is a wild orchid that can be found in the jungles of Malaysia. Not sure on how my mum got hold of it. This shot was actually taken on April 19, 2009, but the processing was done on April 20, 2009. Technically this is for Day 109, but I am labeling it as Day 120 because the processing was done on April 20, 2009. My maiden attempt at creating a High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging. This HDR image was done using a single file conversion. I used Photomatix to do generate the HDR image and do the necessary tone mapping and HDR rendition. I then used Photoshop Elements to adjust the colours and contrast. I am quite happy with the final output from this image. Had an empty bottle of Chivas whiskey lying about in my home. I tried to photograph the whole bottle, but somehow an empty bottle doesn't look good. So I decided to just photograph the bottle cap. I saw a photo like this in one of the websites that I was surfing at yesterday. I tried to recreate the photo at home last night and this is what I have to show. The surface is actually a black DVD and I placed some water droplets on it. I used my lightbox to shine the light on to the DVD surface, and I got this colour spectrum. It has been more than a week since my last update. Sorry for the inconsistency in updating, but I got tied down with some work. Anyway I am back with my latest photo. For this photo, I did 2 post processing. First I created a High Dynamic Range (HDR) image using Photomatix Pro. This image is actually a combination of 3 separate exposure. I shot at -1 eV, 0 eV and +1 eV. I then used Photomatix Pro to align the photo and create a HDR image. I then did some tone mapping to enhance the photo a bit. Then I used Photoshop Elements to do some minor adjustment to the saturation and contrast of the photo. This is my first attempt at creating a HDR image. Comments on how to improve this photo, composition wise or post processing is highly appreciated.

I was at a wedding reception of one of my collegemate yesterday in Papar, Sabah. Didn't bring along my D60 but I had my Coolpix S51 compact camera with me. This photo was taken by one of the guest at the wedding. Nothing too artistic about this photo, but I wanted to share the joy of wedding. Did minor post production to enhance the colour.

Bought this a few months back solely for the purpose of taking photos. Lighting for this shot was from a single white LED from my mobile phone. I had initially wanted to convert this photo into black and white, and then add some digital noise to give it the classic look. However, during conversion to black and white, I found that I could get clean and clear white background. So I decided to retain the colour of the car, and to change the background to white. I thenk increase the saturation and contrast of the car to bring out its colour. Did some sharpening as well. I am quite happy with the final outcome from this shot. More colour popping method experiment by myself. The eggs looks wet because I just took them out from the fridge prior to this shot. Had a tough time placing them in place, and I had to use double sided tape to ensure they don't roll away. It's Valentine's Day today and I decided to capture an image of love. I've seen this kind of photo being taken many times, and I have always wanted to do one myself. I used my bible as the background and place my engagement ring on the bible. If you look closely, my fiancee's name and my name can been seen engraved on the inner part of the ring. Light source was from a single LED light from my mobile phone. I shot at ISO 800 as I wanted the grainy effect as I had wanted to convert the image into black and white, thus giving it the classic look. However, during post production, I decided to retain the colour of the ring and make the background black and white (colour popping method). This photo was taken yesterday, but I was only able to upload this photo this morning. I went to Tanjung Aru Beach to try capture a sunset scene, and I saw this couple sitting under a coconut tree. Composition wise could have been better, but there were other trees beside that particular coconut tree, and it was quite hard to compose properly. Having said that, I am quite happy with the final outcome, as the sunset was beatiful and it was a welcoming sight after a long day at work. I was at a site in Tanjung Batu, Kota Marudu today and on the way back, I had the chance to view this spectacular sunset. We (my colleagues and myself) were on our way to another site when I saw this. Luckily I had my camera with me and was able to capture the sunset. Noise level is quite high but not that noticeable at ISO 800. I had to increase the ISO as I didn't have my tripod with me. Lucky me, the boat provided an interesting focal point and the silhouette of the boat is just beautiful. However, I feel that I might have overdone the contrast and saturation. I have always been fascinated with water droplets. I admire photographers who have the patience and is able to stay still for a long time to get that perfect water droplet shot.
