I went down to Kota Kinabalu Town to have a go at street shooting at the famous Gaya Street Tamu. It was there that I came upon a local celebrity who was doing a promotional event for a local recording company. It was a bright and sunny day, and there was quite a crowd there. Managed to get close enough to capture this shot. Comments on how to improve this photo, composition wise or post processing is highly appreciated.

Not the best photo, as his face is in the shadows and there are too many distracting elements in the pictures such as the wires on the ground and the crowd. I would suggest that with the current lens that you have, you can shoot a wide angle shot of the event as it will tell more in terms of what was going on that day.
I agree with Samuel on this one. What I usually do with a point and shoot camera (sorry.. I'm SLR illeterate) for shots where the background is bright is either use manual flash if the subject is close enough or increase the EV a bit to make the foreground brighter. As far as the distracting cables and wires go, you can always PP it out with the clone or patch tool. The wide angle idea is pretty good too. At least you can get a story out of the photo. :)

1st impression when I see dis pics was...unsatisfied...n i wud say "uii gelap jg n who's this??!!!" then terpaksa kasi besar my eyes..heheh....not a nice pic to see....work more hard bro!!! adios!!
